Bubble Tea Cafe - Northwood - Harrow

Service: Brand Direction, Interior Design

If you have any interaction with children, you will understand that they are dreamers. They do not see limitations but only possibilities. I think its quite sad that this seems to get lost as we get older and exciting possibilities turn into doubts and fears. But what if we brought out our inner child and explored that “What if?”

When Bubbles owner, Neha first approached me this is exactly what she wanted to do. Her daughter had a dream to open a Bubble Tea shop in Northwood, full of fun, possibilities and all things pretty in pink! Was it possible to turn this dream into reality?

As soon as I met the family, I knew they would make this a success. Neha has a meticulous eye for detail, even though this was a jump into the unknown she made it her mission to research and understand all the ins and outs of operating the business, so when it came to design obviously she knew what she wanted!

The proposed site was in the heart of Northwood, previously an estate agency, the site was long but narrow. We proposed several layout options to see what would work best. The final choice was to have the counter at the front so the vibrant bubble tea flavours could be visible from the street.

Bubble Tea was first made famous on Instagram (I have no source for this fact, but I am pretty sure it is true!) so it was an obvious requirement to have an Instagram feature wall. We used a fun 3D bubble effect wall to form a backdrop for a feature “bubble seat” with changing lighting to make it super fun especially in the evenings! A beautiful flower feature using preserved flowers are an eco-friendly way to add a softer touch to the overall scheme.

Pink terazzo flooring gives a modern twist to a classic design and marries the colour scheme together. The bubble theme is taken very seriously and is seen throughout the iridescent lighting as well as the pastel tiles behind the counter. The counter front was also completely bespoke created with recycled pipes for a fun, curvy, bubbly effect!

The toilets were tiny, but we made a huge impact with geometric floor tiles and striking black hardware to complement the pink metro tiles. You can really tell how nice a place is by looking at the toilets, don’t you agree?

The real star of the show is the bespoke “bubble light” wall created by the clever contractors following the design I came up with in a dream, as obviously that’s where all my inspiration comes from! Fitting really, as this really was a dream come true project!
